Start: 2026-01-23T21:30:00-06:00
Location: Barbarella Austin

Gay Austin runs on the same energy as the rest of the city: creative, unpretentious and happy to be a little weird. The LGBTQ+ scene covers gay bars and dance clubs, a community center or two, arts and culture, shops, event spaces, a theater and health and wellness, so a night out here can go in plenty of directions.

Nightlife is the loudest part of the map. Barbarella Austin, Cheer Up Charlies, Coconut Club, Highland Lounge, Oilcan Harry's and Swan Dive all work as both bars and clubs, and The Austin Eagle and The Iron Bear round out the list. Pick a patio for a chill hang or follow the music to a packed dance floor.

Daytime has its own pull. The Little Gay Shop and BookWoman are easy afternoon stops for shopping and browsing, and the Austin Gay Men's Chorus keeps the arts side singing. The community organizes, too: Austin LGBT Chamber of Commerce, Austin Pride Foundation, Equality Texas, Out Youth, PFLAG Austin, Austin Prime Timers and the Weird City Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence all put in the work, and the Central Texas Transgender Health Coalition looks after community health. Whatever kind of night or day you're planning, there's a place to start.
