Queer Life in the Early Republic: Dr. Matt Champagne Talk

A documentary screening that honors the life and legacy of Ivy Young, a journalist and organizer whose archive of experience spans queer generations, activism, and resilience. Directors Catherine Gund and Mariah Norman, alongside Jade Keith (Ivy's niece and a history teacher), explore how memory, identity, and community care shape our shared future. After the film, join a conversation with the filmmakers, Kojo Nnamdi, Sharon Farmer, and others who knew Ivy's work. A warm reception follows.

The U Street Corridor's golden age comes alive on this 1.5-hour walking tour led by Rainbow History Project and Off the Mall Tours. From the Prohibition Era through the Civil Rights Movement, Black Broadway was the epicenter of Black culture, social justice movements, and a thriving queer community tied to the Harlem Renaissance, the Pansy Craze, and underground entertainment worlds. You'll start at the historic Howard Theater and end at Thurst Lounge, DC's first queer Black-owned bar—a fitting destination for a tour that reclaims and celebrates the marginalized histories that shaped this neighborhood.

A community conversation about the stories we tell, the histories we risk losing, and the power of being remembered. Spend an evening exploring LGBTQ+ history and memory with others who care about preserving these narratives. Organized by ARound Robin Production Company.
