Provincetown has been a refuge and creative haven for LGBTQ+ people for decades — the kind of place where you can walk down the street and feel genuinely seen, where the community isn't performing for anyone else's comfort. The whole town has this relaxed, anything-goes energy that comes from generations of queer people building something real here, not just a tourist attraction but an actual home where you can be exactly who you are.

The scene here spans everything from the Boatslip Resort's legendary afternoon tea dances on the beach to drag shows at The Crown & Anchor that pack the room with locals and visitors who actually know how to have fun. You've got the Post Office Cafe & Cabaret for cabaret nights, the Red Room for dancing, and smaller spots like Gifford House where the vibe is more about community than spectacle — which is exactly the point, emphasized by the various theme weeks throughout the year, like Bear Week, Frolic, Women's Week, Baby Dyke, Carnival, and Spooky Bear.

Provincetown's Women's Week kicks into high gear on Sunday night with a celebration that brings together the community for a full evening of performances, dancing, and the kind of energy only this week can bring. If you've never caught Women's Week in P-town, this is what summer turns into when the women who make the season happen stick around to celebrate each other — expect packed venues, live performances, and a room full of people genuinely happy to be there. It's the event that reminds you why this town matters to so many of us.

Three distinct spaces stacked into one historic Provincetown institution: the Porch Bar for cocktails and catching up, Wilde Playhouse for shows and performances, and Purgatory downstairs where the dance floor stays packed with rotating DJs most nights. It's the kind of place where you can float between rooms depending on the mood, run into people you know, and feel the weight of actual queer history in the floorboards. Gay-owned, year-round, and genuinely central to how this town does community.
